This is a minimum 15 credit hour certificate.   Most candidates will have already completed their undergraduate degree, but exceptions will be made for mature candidates with appropriate experience.  Candidates will typically take 2 years to complete the certificate.

There are two main paths: 

Path 1:   Muslim & Christian Studies

Requirements:

• Research and writing for Muslim & Christian Studies part 1 (1 credits)

  • Students who can demonstrate prior competence in this area may be exempted

• Qur'an and Bible 1 (3 credits)

• Contemporary Issues in Muslim & Christian Dialogue (3 credits)

• History of Muslim & Christian Dialogue 1 or 2 (3 credits)

• At least another 5 credit hours to be chosen from other course options.

Path 2:  Comparative Textual Studies

Requirements:

• Research and writing for Muslim & Christian Studies part 1 (1 credits)

  • Students who can demonstrate prior competence in this area may be permitted to take another 3 credit op

• Qur'an and Bible 1 (3 credits)

• Qur'an and Bible 2 (3 credits)

• At least 3 credits in Scriptural languages.​

  • Biblical Hebrew, New Testament Greek and Qur'anic Arabic.​

• Other comparative textual courses as offered​

  • Qur'an and Psalms.​

  • Qur'an and Gospels.

  • Reading the Bible in Islamic Contexts.

The usual cost for a 3 credit hour course is $400, reduced to $150 for majority world students.  The cost for a full certificate is $1,500, reduced to $550 for majority world students.   CMCS Houston has some full and some part scholarships available.
