David and Goliath

Writer's picture: David CoffeyDavid Coffey

The Qur'an gives all glory to God for the Prophet David slaying Goliath.  In fact, in Islamic Tradition, after David slew Goliath he went into the desert to humble himself before God.

In the Bible, as emphasized by Jewish tradition, the combat between David and Goliath took place during the waning days of King Saul’s kingship, after he had already been discredited by the prophet Samuel. Saul had been notified that in the eyes of God his reign was over, and that he was set to be replaced.  And the emphasis is on the fact that David killed Goliath in the 'Name of The Lord'.

In this period between the election of a new president and his taking office, let us reflect on God as the Ruler of us all, and also as the One who establishes and replaces political leaders.
